Carol Newling, whose maiden name was Haragan, was born in 1943 at Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

She lived at 64 Walsingham Road, St Paul's Cray, Sidcup, Kent and recalls the following people she knew: Lavinia Smith, Jackie Chandler, Susan Thomas, Sandra Lewis, Penny Moore, Colin Deveny?, Dave King and Kenny Gillette?

I had a wonderful childhood, we would build tree houses and play for hours in the woods. We would collect beer bottles and take them to the pub and get refunds on the empties for pocket money; and ride our bikes up the country lanes and go scrumping in the apple orchards until we got caught!

On a Saturday morning we'd go to the pictures; mum would give me a shilling and that would pay my bus fair, entry to the pictures and three pence to spend on sweets (usually three gob stoppers, they lasted the longest.)

We emigrated to Australia in 1956 when I was 13 yrs old, and I haven't been home since ...... but one day!!
