The following are memories recalled by Mrs Joan Adams, as recorded by Hanover Housing Association in their book 'Tale of the Century' published in 1999.

No-one knew my secret until years after the war.

Havingbeen turned down by the forces due to a heart condition, I was given a job whichwas counted as a 'reserved occupation'. I worked in the deciphering establishmentat Bletchley Park. My work was cartography and decoding messages.

I was billeted with a dear old couple who were kindness itself. The house was about two miles from the park and, like many of the old houses in those days, the loo was at the bottom of the garden. In summer this was not too bad, but in the winter, oh my! I was chilled not so much to the marrow but to my nether end!
