Meriel P. Brown Evans (nee Brown) was born in 1936 at Richmond in Surrey. She now lives in the USA and has an interesting tale to tell about a time nearly half a century ago when she visited her homeland.

About 40-45 years ago I visited Aylesbury and the Church of St. John the Divine. In the vestry were photographs of various past and present church organists. One of the photographs was of my uncle, Edgar Archer Brown, who was organist at St. John's Church from 1915 to 1917.

He was killed in action at Gomiecourt, France, in World War I on August 23, 1918. There was a beautiful tribute to him in the parish magazine of St. Mary, written by W.H.P., the Choir Director at that time.

I know that St. John's Church was demolished in 1970, and am wondering what happened to those photographs. I would dearly love to acquire the photograph of Edger Archer Brown, or at least a copy of it, if that is possible.

E.A.B's brother is mentioned in the article, and that is Mr. Thomas A. Brown, my father, who will be 100 next 12th of February. I would really appreciate an answer from anyone who can help me.

I have been in touch with the Buckinghamshire County Council Archives, who have all been most helpful, but did not know what happened to the photographs.

I should also add that my father, Thomas A. Brown was a chorister at St. John's Church, under W.H.P. in 1926. He was a professional singer, pianist and organist for many years.
