Building of the Dome - posted by Isobel
I have recently found out that my Great-great uncle, a master roofer and tiler, constructed and tiled the roof of the Dome.

Can anyone give me any help as to whether there would be any documentation to support this and where I might look?

Many thanks Isobel.

Hi Isobel,
What was your great-great uncle's name, and can you provide his address and date of birth. Give me as much information as you can about him, his business activities, his family, and so on.
Regards,
Rob

Hello Rob,
My G-g-Uncle was called Edgar Charles Guyatt (Ted).
He was born in Westbourne near Chichester in 1874 and died in Finsbury in 1940.
He married an Emily Aldridge (my relative) 2.04.1904 in Caterham, Surrey and they were living in Croyden in 1911. Occupation "Slater".

I am in contact with his Grandson who first told me that he had done the roof for Worthing Dome but in a subsequent email he has put Brighton Dome!! He was also responsible for the building of the "bowed roof" of The County Hall on London Embankment.

I hope this is enough information for you?

Many thanks Isobel.
Sorry....also...

Originaly it was called "The Kursall" but as it had Gernan name, in the 1920s(?), after a competion for a new name chosen by my late Father-in-law William Tedder
(for which he got a small prize)it was renamed "The Dome"
