I am writing a book set in the 1920's, and would be grateful for any information you may have about the everyday aspects of life at this time; social activites, shops, work etc, particularly concerning women.

By Gwyn		Hi Pam my late father born 1913 wrote about village life in Llantrisant on Anglesey when he was a child ,all written in Welsh but I have with my sister started to translate to English his first years at the village school and having to attend church every Sunday . By rukkajanrukka		Hi Pam, Both my late parents were born in 1920/21. My late mother hated to talk about her early childhood in newly-built Swaby Road, near Wandsworth Common. Her parents came from 'well-to-do' backgrounds and it seems they made a clean break after the Great War. My main point is that families felt 'shameful' seeing neighbours across the road who lived in privately owned properties. This attitude made schoolkids of that era who lived in poorer places like 'Swaby Road' think they were 'taboo.' It was a kind of reverse snobbery, around the time of the Great Depression - when there was a wide social gap between 'haves' and 'have-nots.' For background, my Grandfather served in the 'Royal Flying Corps' (later renamed RAF.) He also served his country unscathed during WWII. I do hope this helps.
