A lovely poem sent by Mrs Edna Dolphin (nee Stephenson) who was born at Cowling in 1935.

Can you recall, when you were small,
The games we used to play.
With just a ball, and that was all,
'Twas, Rounders, Throw and Catch

Unless we had a Brainstorm
And arranged a Cricket Match
We'd draw the Wicket's, on the wall,
No Keeper needed there at all.

A piece of wood, would make a bat,
With wickets drawn, well that was that,
We'd find some friends, to come to stay,
We'd play at Cricket all the day.

Then up the hill, we all would go,
To play at rolling over,
We'd 'Rolly Polly' down the hill,
We'd smell the lovely clover.

Play 'Hide and Seek' or Hop Scotch,
Maybe 'Tig' or 'Top and Whip'
Old washing line, well that was fine,
To make a rope, to skip.

With Mother's old lace curtains,
We would make a Fishing Net,
Then off we'd go, to catch a fish,
But, all we got was wet.

We didn't have Computers, then,
Or a T.V. with a switch.
But those were Happy, Carefree, Days
They passed, without a hitch.

Edna M. Dolphin.
