'Other camps with her were at: Bovey Tracey, Devon which was near Hayter Rocks, a favourite walking Spot; Dawlish; another on the Isle of Wight; and a most memorable one in Hurstpierpoint.
I was awarded my First Class Badge and all round cards whilst in the Guides and enjoyed very much the achievement of gaining individual badges.
We would go to a nurse in Lancing for training in first aid and home nursing, knowledge that proved useful throughout life. I can remember going to Hove for other classes and the difficulty I had mending a puncture on my bicycle, a necessary part of the Cyclists Badge.
The holiday at Hurstpierpoint was with Hove Division Guides, at a district camp in Danny Park. I palled up with a Ranger from Hove, being the only Lancing Ranger, and she and I got talking with Rover Scouts, who were also camping in the park. We asked if they could come to the campfire, and this was agreed. Afterwards they suggested a walk but this caused trouble as a leader went round checking to see if everyone was in bed, and we found our innocent jaunt had marked us as 'wicked girls'. Our escapade was reported to the 'high-ups' of the Division.
I began to realise that I was getting too old for the Guide Movement, but because I enjoyed helping with the Coombes Company, I stayed a while longer.
I was later asked to resign from the Guides, by the District Commissioner, after another escapade which caused me to be branded a 'ring leader'.'
