Schooled at Forest Glade Infants & Juniors and then Hillocks Secondary he completed his education at the Wireless College, Colwyn Bay, North Wales after he had joined up.
He did his three years of National Service in the Royal Signals from 1945 until 1948, serving at Scarborough, Barnard Castle & B.A.O.R. Germany -- Iserlohn & Dusseldorf.
During his career he worked at Sheepbridge Stokes at Sutton-in-Ashfield, the War Office Wireless Station at Loughborough, Marconi International Marine Communication Company (Merchant Navy), Lloyds Retailers at Mansfield, Alex Owen at Beeston, Nottinghamshire, and Ashfield Training at Sutton-in-Ashfield.
It was while he was at the Wireless College at Colwyn Bay in 1948 that he met two fellow students who were to make a lasting impression upon him: Peter Roberts and Fergus Dodd.
Sadly, Fergus has since died, but if Peter is still alive he would like to find him again. He recalls that he came from the Shepherds Bush area of London, and thinks he served in the Army Tank Corps.
