I remember the 1960s and 1970s as an idyllic time to be a child.... the world was a much safer place to be and it held no fears. I remember going for long country walks in Hadleigh Castle with my nanny and my little dog (which was a miniature toy poodle) called Nicky.
My nan who was in her 60s then could walk much further than I could!! And I have such dear memories of her taking me into the Lyons Tea house for tea and cream scones. I remember feeling so grown up...
As an only child my best friend was my little pet dog who could play hide and seek with me believe it or not. I used to leave him in the back garden and then hide in the house.
Once hidden, I would shout out of whichever room I was in into the back garden telling him to come and get me..... Which he subsequently did.
Sadly, he had to be put down when I was 12 because he was going blind. I remember coming back from school one day and him not being there. That evening my mother telling me what she had had to do, that was take him to the vets and put him to sleep.
I also remember the long summer we had in 1976 which seemed to last all year long..... I was 14 then (my birthday falls in December). I have loads of other memories but the ones mentioned above are special to me.
