The following are memories recalled by Edith White, as recorded by Hanover Housing Association in their book 'Tale of the Century' published in 1999.

I was born on 24th July 1899 in Greater London and for as long as I can remember I have loved playing the piano. Neither of my parents played the piano, but I had the opportunity to play it at school and since then it has been the love of my life. I played for my local church on Sundays and in music halls and was also a member of the Dagenham Girl Pipers.

I married at the age of 21 - which seems quite young now I look back - and had three children, two girls and a boy. I remember many lovely Christmases where we gathered together and sung while I played the piano.

A bit different to today's families where the television is often the focal point.
I celebrated my 100th birthday this year and I have a piano in my room that I still play for my own enjoyment and for my friends at Dornden Gardens.
