My Nanny Hinde, lived in Hartlepool. My Mum and Dad sent my sister, my Nan Flo and me to stay with her, as it was too dangerous in London. My Nanny Hinde would take all the parcels that my Mum had sent to us and she would put all these food parcels into a pool. There were other cousins and family there too.
The problem was my Nanny Flo never thought that we were getting our share of sweets etc. So my Nan Flo used to open the parcels first and take out some sweets and hide them in the bedroom that we occupied. There was a saying in the household 'Tomatoes only for the grown ups', so my Nanny Flo would take some of these for my sister, I never liked them. This saying is still part of my sister's repertoire and mine even to this day.
