Cassie McHaffie (nee Kathleen HUTH) was born in 1933 at Stratford East London E15 and attended Salway Road Primary School before completing her education at St.Angela's Ursuline Convent, Forest Gate E7.

The youngest of five children born off Angel Lane, Stratford, I left the Convent in 1947 and worked for about nine years in British Rail offices including Stratford Station (L.N.E.R.) Got to a W1 class and worked part-time there after having one child.

I also worked part-time in Clarnico's Sweet Factory, in the office as a puller. After marrying Brian McHaffie in 1956 we lived at 30 & 17 Western Street (the latter we bought) and then emigrated in 1965.

We arrived in Adelaide, South Australia in February 1965 with Janice then aged seven and Stuart who was four years old. After working for many years I retired in 1990. Brian was with I.C.I. for 29 years and retired at the end of 1992.

We came to live on the East coast in 1995 and love it here. Jan and Stuart live in Adelaide still and Stuart has two girls, Charlotte and Ruby. Brian is a Volunteer with Marine Rescue and is Chief of Operations as well as Skipper. I volunteer at the local hospital and we play Lawn Bowls. With Exercise classes and Computer lessons our lives are full!!!

People I recall from the early days include: John LeSurf who married Kit Sallows, Len Terry of Harold Wood, John Durrant of Tottenham, Joan Wolf and Joan Vince.

Would dearly love to hear from people who may remember us! This is a wonderful chance to fulfil that wish. Love and Best Wishes to everyone who may read this.

Cass McHaffie, New South Wales, Australia, 2002
